I’m taking a course on Pacific Natural History. Once upon a time, I got a degree in Forestry and Wildlife, but since almost none of the flora and fauna I studied in Virginia actually occur here in Hawaii, I’ve been feeling like a fraudulent biologist. This particular Saturday, I got to take a field trip with my class. I noticed this shadow and liked how it made me look like an explorer. I also like that it highlights the $10 hiking shoes I found on clearance the weekend before.

We went to the local shopping center to celebrate “Laie Days” with our fellow citizens. While there, we went out to eat at a local burger joint, Seven Brothers.

Now that H is communicating more, the boys are playing together more. Here is a shot of them together in the backyard. In this shot, S is already on the move and H is soon to follow.

There is another photo from this day that I think is a nicer picture, but this has the better story. S climbed up here and wanted me to document that he was “Super-tall!” As I was focusing in on S, I heard H, who has recently started talking in sentences declare that he also was “Super-tall”. I reframed-the shot to include both versions of “Super-tall!” A nice reminder that everything is relative.

The night of the 19th was one of the loudest thunderstorms of my life. I liked finding the sky in this puddle afterward.

We went to see Planes 2: Fire and Rescue this Friday. S drew a picture of Dusty for us before we left for the show.
