August 4

Back to school photo!

S started pre-school today. His preschool is a small mom-led preschool co-op. I teach on Tuesdays and Thursdays and another mom takes Mondays and Wednesdays. There are 3 boys in the group, plus some younger siblings.

We took a Sunday walk to R’s office and took some pictures along the way.

August 2

S at the Bishop Museum

We took the boys to the Bishop Museum again. We enjoyed the Planetarium show and tried to take the boys to the melting lava rock demonstration, but both boys found it to scary. H used his developing language skills to say “I want go out”. Fortunately, the boys found other things they could appreciate in the science building including this larger than life snail model. It reminds me of the racing snails in the “Neverending Story”.

August 1: My every day

I thought I might try using the inspiration list from Capture Your 365 again; maybe I’ll take fewer desperation shots. Anyway, I was out in the garden, trying to take a picture of my watering can, since that is a new every day chore when I noticed this truck out of place in the front yard. H plays with this truck almost every day and its looking a little worse for wear, but I thought it was a pretty good representation of our every day around here.

A close up of a pair of S’s swim trunks that were left on the bathroom sink; I took this picture just before bed.

July 27

I got a new calling as the first counselor in our ward’s Primary Presidency. Earlier this month, I was elected President of the local affiliate of Friends of the Library. I start teaching Preschool again on Monday. In recognition of all of the things that will be keeping me busy, I got a new planner.

July 26

I’m taking a course on Pacific Natural History. Once upon a time, I got a degree in Forestry and Wildlife, but since almost none of the flora and fauna I studied in Virginia actually occur here in Hawaii, I’ve been feeling like a fraudulent biologist. This particular Saturday, I got to take a field trip with my class. I noticed this shadow and liked how it made me look like an explorer. I also like that it highlights the $10 hiking shoes I found on clearance the weekend before.
